Kemerovo region presents large economic potential as a territory of energy-consuming industrial complexes. It holds almost one third of basic productive assets of West Siberia. And products 73,5% of hard coals, 72% of coking coal and 100% of some of the most valuable ranks of cocking coals in Russia.

Kuzbass produces every 9 ton of steel and rolled steel (app. 14%), every 4,4 ton of coal (app. 21,9%), more than 56,6% of ferrosilicium, 65% of railway rails and 100% of tram rails.

The region is expected to keep this very specialization in production over the long term. The fact is demonstrated by structure and volumes of funds invested in realization of ambitious investment programs.

The amount of capital investments in projects of coal industry is to exceed 109.2 billions RUB.

Leading industry of the Kemerovo region is fuel and energy complex. The main sectors of region’s economy are coal mining and power sector.

For production of gross regional product (GRP) in 2013 26,5 million tons of coal is consumed (203 million tons are produced), 36.1 billion kWh of electrical power are used (20,1 billion kWh are produced), 38.6 million Gcal of thermal energy is consumed and produced. The data demonstrates high level of energy independence.

However development of energy infrastructure of Kuzbass encounters some significant difficulties affecting development of industrial capacities. Therefore the priority for every sector of economy is always energy conservation and efficiency.

Over the last 15 years 6 regional programs addressing energy consumption and energy efficiency allowed to adjust down power consumption of gross regional product from 82.2 standard fuel per thousand RUB of GRP to 53,1 standard fuel per thousand RUB of GRP. This fact demonstrates decrease of power consumption in comparison with 2007’s data.

Kemerovo region is the largest industrial region and support base for development not only of Siberia but of the whole country.
