Aleksandr Misharin

First Vice President at Russian Railways JSC

Biography

Born on January 21, 1959, in Sverdlovsk, in the family of a railroad worker.

In 1981, Mr. Misharin graduated from the Ural Electromechanical Institute of Railway Transport Engineers, as a "Railway Communications Engineer / Electrical Engineer."

Mr. Misharin is Candidate of Economic Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences.

Since 1981 till 1989, Mr. Misharin worked for the Sverdlovsk Railway, as an electrical engineer, head of Sedelnikovo Station Electric Networks Area, and Chief Engineer of Ishimskaya Energy Supply Division.

From 1989 to 1991, Mr. Misharin worked on the construction of Yekaterinburg Metro, as Chief Energy Supply Engineer. After putting of the metro into operation (April of 1991), he returned to the Sverdlovsk Railway as Deputy Head of the Railway Energy Supply Service and in the same year became the service head.

From 1996 to 1998 — Chief Engineer of Sverdlovsk Railway.

On July 20, 1998, Mr. Misharin was appointed as Deputy Minister of Railway Communications of the Russian Federation; since July 14, 2000 – First Deputy Minister. In February 2002, after the dismissal of Nikolai Aksyenenko from the position of Railway Communications Minister, Aleksandr Misharin was downgraded to an "ordinary" deputy.

On May 15, 2002, Mr. Misharin was appointed as the Sverdlovsk Railway Head and a member of the collegium of the Russian Federation Railway Communications Ministry.

Since May 2004 – Director of Infrastructure Comprehensive Development Department at the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

Since June 2004 till March 2009 – Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation.

From 2005 to 2008, Mr. Misharin was a member of the Board of Directors of Russian Railways JSC.

In March 2009, Mr. Misharin was appointed as Director of Industry & Infrastructure Department of the Russian Federation Government.

Since November 2009 till May 2012, Mr. Misharin held the position of the Sverdlovsk Region Governor.

On August 6, 2012, Mr. Misharin joined Expert Council of the Russian Federation Government as the President of the Russian National Non-Governmental Organization "Russian Transport Academy."

On December 3, 2012 Mr. Misharin was appointed as First Vice-President of Russian Railways JSC, and on February 6, 2013 – as Director General of High-Speed Rail Lines JSC that will deal with the construction of Moscow-Kazan high-speed rail line.
